On Tuesday afternoon, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were called to the Seneca Estates neighborhood, where there was a reported explosion in the 14200 block of Cervantes Avenue near Seneca Road.
Upon arrival, they found a blown out garage and cars in a driveway that suffered extensive damage from the blast.
Officials say that the explosion was the result of a resident misusing or modifying fireworks, leading to the explosion, which caused an estimated $400,000 in damage.
The condition of the two injured people was no available on Wednesday, June 28. Several pets were safely removed from the home, which is deemed unsafe to live in following the incident.
It was initially believed to be a faulty model rocket that caused the explosion, though that was quickly debunked by first responders.
Officials issued an alert reminding residents that fireworks are illegal in Montgomery County.
The incident remains under investigation.
